Workout 12/16/2011

The "hinges" were feeling a bit rusty this morning...

Cardiovascular Warm-up / Flexibility / Mobility

5 x 10 Overhead Ball Slams
2 x 10 Wide Grip Lateral Pulldowns to the Chest
Wrist and Forearm Flexibility
3 x 5 Box Jumps

8 x 4 Box Squats beginning @ 60% of Monday's ending weight plus one set of chains - adding weight as sets progress to end at an RPE of 8/9 for final sets.
5 x 5 Deadlift
4 x 10 / 10 Pistols
4 x 10 Straight Leg Sit-ups

Accessory Work

This morning I walked into The Anvil feeling a bit creaky and not exceptionally excited to be there. The reason or reasons were unclear to me. As Brandon Nugent had remarked earlier about a picture of a whiteboard in his gym... "Motivation required and a distinct disregard for sloth."

I was there. This is motivation. To generate the volition and disregard sloth I opened our notebook and began.

As the joints of both my mind and body were creaky I warmed up carefully. I set the box for box squats a full two inches higher than normal and did 3 warm-up sets with just the bar and chains. Then I dropped it down to the correct height and did 3 more warm-up sets and then proceeded with my workout. It went well.

  1. Always good to get it done. Like I always say, no one ever says "I wish I had skipped my training session." People may want to skip at the beginning or on the way to the gym but then we are rewarded with a great sense of well being at the end of the session.
